STANLEY E. DOTY (Partner) has been practicing corporate and real estate transactional law in Palo Alto, California since 1982. After graduating from Stanford University (B.A., Honors and Distinction in economics, 1975) and University of Michigan Law School (J.D., 1978), he was admitted to practice law in California in 1978. He came to Palo Alto in 1982 and formed the firm of Baer & Doty which engaged in the practice of corporate and real estate transactional law. A successor firm, Doty & Sundheim, was formed in 1986 and became Doty Sundheim & Gilmore in 1998. In recent years, Mr. Doty has focused on his corporate transactional practice, with an emphasis on business financings, technology licensing, and merger and acquisition transactions. His clients include startups to mid-sized clients who are typically supplying technologies, services and components to the largest companies in Silicon Valley. ANNETTE BARLOW (Partner) joined Doty & Sundheim in 1996 and has been a partner since 2003. Her practice focuses on business and corporate law. Annette represents private companies as well as venture capital funds and investors with respect to business formations, corporate governance, securities compliance, financings (debt and equity), and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, Annette regularly counsels professionals in the health care field. She also has extensive experience in strategic transactions, including intellectual property licensing and joint ventures, as well as contract negotiation and review, including sales, service and distribution agreements, leases and construction contracts. Annette received her J.D. in 1993 from Georgetown University and her B. A. degree in Political Economy of Industrial Societies from the University of California at Berkeley in 1990. W. DERRICK BRITT (Partner) focuses on the representation of technology and other emerging growth companies regarding formation, general corporate matters, debt and equity financings involving private placements of securities in angel rounds, strategic investments and venture capital transactions, mergers and acquisitions, strategic licensing and other intellectual property agreements, partnering agreements, sales channel agreements, and other mission critical contractual relationships. Derrick joined the firm in 1997 to focus on corporate, transactional law and licensing and was admitted as a partner to the firm in 2003. Derrick received his Juris Doctor degree in 1993 and his Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, in American Government in 1989 from Georgetown University. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1993. He is a member of the State Bar of California, Silicon Valley, Santa Clara County and Palo Alto Area Bar Associations. ROBERT D. THOMAS (Partner) practices employment law. Rob represents employers and employees in employment counseling and transactions. He specializes in employment agreements, executive compensation, stock options and other equity arrangements, protection of trade secrets, restrictions on competition, terminations, and general employment counseling. Rob received his J.D., magna cum laude, in 1993 from Hastings College of the Law where he was awarded the Order of the Coif. Rob received a B.A. in English from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1984. Prior to attending law school, Rob served as an Officer in the United States Navy, where he was an engineering officer aboard a submarine. In 1992, Rob was a Judicial Extern for Justice Armand Arabian of the California Supreme Court. Rob has written articles on a number of employment law topics and contributed to several publications, including Matthew Bender's California Employer's Guide to Employee Handbooks and Personnel Policy Manuals and the Employers Group's California Wage and Hour Guide. Rob has moderated and given presentations for the Council on Education in Management, the Santa Clara County Bar Association and the San Mateo County Bar Association. Rob is an active member of the legal and local community. He has chaired both the Labor & Employment Executive Committee and the Education Committee of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, and has served on the Santa Clara County Bar Association's Board of Trustees Executive Committee and Finance Committee. JOSEPH P. THIEMAN (Associate) joined Doty Barlow Britt & Thomas as an associate in 2000. Joe divides his practice between (i) corporate and securities law matters, including corporate governance, business formation and organization, private equity financings, mergers and acquisitions, (ii) business contracts, and licensing review and negotiation. Prior to joining the firm, he played professional soccer for D.C. United, a Major League Soccer team. PETER C. SUHR (Of Counsel) is a Bay Area native, who has been providing either tax or business law services in this community since 1986. After graduating from Thomas Acquinas College (1979) and Santa Clara University (J.D./M.B.A., 1986), Peter joined the tax department in the San Jose office of the international accounting firm Coopers & Lybrand (now known as PricewaterhouseCoopers) where he engaged in tax planning and compliance work for corporations, partnerships and individuals. In 1988, Peter joined one of the Peninsula's larger law firms, Ropers, Majeski, Kohn & Bentley, and became a partner. He there provided a broad range of business and litigation advice and services as to strategic planning, liability protection, contracts, finance, tax and mergers and acquisitions. RODNEY C. GILMORE (Of Counsel) is a graduate of Boalt Hall School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley and was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1986. He received his B.A. degree in English from Stanford University in 1982. Prior to joining Doty Barlow Britt & Thomas Rodney was a partner at Greene, Radovsky, Maloney & Share in San Francisco. Rodney specializes in transactional law with an emphasis on business formation and planning, mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, intellectual property and technology licensing. He is a member of the State Bar of California. He is also a member of the Board of Directors, Stanford Alumni Association and the Palo Alto Rotary Club.
